Xcel Energy’s 67-turbine Grand Meadow Wind Farm is now adding to the company’s growing total of kilowatts produced by wind.
And there are no plans of stopping.
“You are going to see (turbines) popping up,” said Tom Hoen of Xcel Energy. “That whole area (southeastern Minnesota) is a very windy area, flat, very receptive to wind farms.”
Late last month they added 100.5 megawatts, generated by the 67-turbine Grand Meadow Wind Farm, to their running total of more than 1,200 megawatts in the Upper Midwest system. The wind farm, which was built by enXco, began selling electricity to the regional transmission grid on Dec. 4.
